balloons over bavarian inn

A mini summer day trip to see some hot air balloons sounds like a swell idea to me! Over the weekend my mom and I headed North to Frankenmuth with Kennedy and Piper for Balloons Over Bavarian Inn 2016

The event was scheduled to begin at 7pm at the River Place Shops. We got into town with plenty of time to spare but since it was pretty sweltering we decided to stop at the one and only Tony's for a bite to eat instead of exploring. What this means is that you order a BLT, and this BLT will contain one pound of the most perfectly crisped bacon you have ever set your eyes on.

It never fails that I cannot finish the whole thing, but boy do I give it the college try. You can't not get it at least once in your lifetime if you're in the area. And then we have a disgruntled, pouty Piper. Too good not to share.

Next stop, the balloons!

When we got closer to the event location the village was noticeably filled to bursting. Not only was the balloon event being held at this location but so was this massive dog show. There was a wiener dog race and an agility competition. I have never seen so many dachshunds in one sitting. Needless to say, parking was a bit of a nightmare and it took us longer to get situated than I had initially planned for. 7pm was upon us and we are watching the skies for balloon take-off. We aren't seeing anything from where we are so we ask if we're in the right place.

I assumed that when we got to the venue the balloons would have been blown up and we would have been able to see them up close before they were schedule to take flight. Well, I was wrong. I'm seriously on a losing streak for fun outings with the girls! On the plus side, we hadn't missed anything, but on the down side we were going to. We finally found the field where the balloons were located but this is the scene we were met with a million balloons flying in the sky!

Kidding! We actually found twenty-some odd balloons not even hooked up to their baskets!

Not thinking of an outcome that included this scenario I did not come prepared with chairs or a blanket for seating. I put my thinking cap on and was able to finagle a nice setup for the girlies. After awhile they informed us that due to inclement weather (high winds) the pilots were not going to be taking off but that they hoped to be able to get some of the balloons blown up. In the meantime we just enjoyed some quality time together.

I dressed the girls and I like twinkies: all in denim dresses. It was by sheer coincidence that my mom's outfit coordinated so well! Oh, and what do we have here?! A balloon getting filled up! Red shirt guy and friend were packing up their chairs but I didn't care at the time.

And you could immediately see the effects of the wind. We were bummed but I was glad that none of the pilots were going to be at risk. After the little demonstration we headed into town and did some exploring.

It was a great day out even if it ended up differently than we had first planned.

Laughtose intolerant. So good.
