snack time

Okay, now that we're officially two days into 2016 it's time for me to divulge my long list of resolutions to complete the mantra: "NEW YEAR, NEW ME!".

1. I'm just kidding.
2. I'm not changing.

The New Year is a good excuse to give yourself goals to start on the road to a better you, but if I'm honest with myself, I just can't commit to any big changes and even if I did I would probably falter after a month day. Eating healthier? Working out? More me time? HAHAHAHAHAA.

But speaking of eating healthier it is one thing I want to try to do for the girls.

Snacks in the house usually look like this:

Am I ashamed? Just barely. When I've got a million things on my plate I don't have time to sort out fun snacks and arrange them by color in a cute bowl. Uncrustables and squeeze-y fruits and vegetables are readily available for quick and easy "nourishment".

The Gerber graduates and squeezable food for baby astronauts seem to be nutritionally sound. There are around 14g of sugar per pouch but at the same time none is added; it's natural sugar found in the different fruits that are added. I'm not one to go too into depth thinking that Gerber is hiding something from me.

The Uncrustables on the other hand.. these are something that I know the kids (or myself..) shouldn't always be grabbing as a top food choice. Sugar wise they contain less than a Gerber pouch, but the list of ingredients is a mile long. That's where my concern comes from over eating these bad boys.

So, starting now my goal is to try to make their snack time look more like this:

I know that I won't always be able to take the time to prepare things like this for them, but I am really going to put forth an effort for their tiny tummies and growing bodies. Yes, I'm considering cutting up lunch meat and breaking apart graham crackers prepping! It will probably turn into me rationalizing why it's okay to give your toddler an entire container of black forest ham and sending her on her way.
